Elementary Special Education
I graduated from Derby Senior High school way back in 1990. Go Panthers! Since leaving high school, I have attended, either physically or via online 4 different colleges. The first college I “attended” was Community College of the Air Force. Next, and somewhat in conjunction with my time with CCAF, I attended Butler County Community College. Next I “attended” (via online) Southwestern College for the duration of 2 differnt bachelor degrees (Youth Ministry and Elementary Education). Lastly, in 2020, I graduated with my master’s in High Incidence Special Education from Fort Hays State University.
The first degree I recieved was an Associates in Logistics and Resources through the Community College of the Air Force. Next, I completed my degree in Associates of General Studies from Butler County Community College. After this I completed a Bachelor Degree in Arts/Youth Ministry at Southwestern College. I then went back to Southwestern to complete a Bachelor in Arts Elementary Education. Lastly, I just graduated with a Masters in Science- High Incidence Special Education.
I have a strong background working with and advancing my studies in working with students with behaviors. I am also qualified level one Orton Gillingham. Pathways and LETRs.
I started my journey 11 years ago as a para-educator in Rosehill. After a few years and the rise of daycare costs, I decided to become a school bus driver. I came to the Douglass school district and drove a bus for 3 years. Toward the end of that I picked back up as a para, until I had to quite to work on my student teaching requirements. This is my 7th year teaching special education.
In my previous life… I am retired from the Kansas Air National Guard where I served faithfully for 20 years. During this time, I spent a lot of time traveling around the world doing various things.
I am happily married (my wife is a teacher at the high school) with 2 boys and a large dog that most of the east side of Douglass know, Scooby Doo. My oldest son graduated from Augusta High School and works as a mechanic at Parks. My youngest attends Sisk Middle School. I also have a granddaughter who lives in Augusta.
When I am not busy with my school duties, I am hard at work at my 2nd job operating a personal business doing wood working/wood crafts. When I am not busy doing these things, I like to hang out with my family, hike, mountian, gravel or road bike, kayak, camp, cook outdoors, fish or just generally be outdoors.
