Mrs. Bassett’s Class
Welcome to Mrs. Bassett’s class! I am one of the MTSS (multi-tiered system of support) coordinators at Seal Elementary. I work with 3rd-5th grade students in small groups for reading and math. I will test your kids on their oral reading fluency, do individual reading and math testing, and look at the testing data to determine how best to help kids be on track for their grade level. One of the other things I enjoy doing is working with the teachers to make your child’s learning as successful as possible.
I encourage you as parents to read with your child daily, even if only for 10 minutes. Let them do math skills while you’re at the store, in the car, or at home. Just ask them quick math questions so they can practice their math facts. Let’s work together to make this the best year yet!
Please be sure to let me know if you have any questions or concerns. My email address is lbassett@usd396.net.
Did you know that Seal Elementary is a school-wide Title 1 school? What does this mean? This means that EVERY teacher is highly qualified to teach your child to read. Isn’t this great news!?!
We have also been learning a great deal about the science of reading and how the brain develops. Through this, we now know the best practices for teaching reading. We are specifically and intentionally teaching phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension. With our small group instruction, we identify the child’s gap and then assign them to a small group for intensive instruction. We are excited about the new developments in reading!
Let’s keep these kids excited about learning. Together, we can make a difference. Let’s catch the learning bug!
